Vaccination target breached: official

THE vaccination program against COVID-19 of the city government has exceeded expectations, said a city government official.

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson, said the city government surpassed its target for first dose as it recorded 102.39 percent of the target, while it has recorded 100.6% of the target for the second dose as it has vaccinated 1.327 million as of last month.

The city has an estimated population of about 1.5 million, based on city government data.

“So far, nagataas na gyud atoang output,” Schlosser said, noting that even the targets for younger groups have also been achieved. “We’re very happy also ang atong 12-17 almost 100 percent na fully vaccinated 12-17 almost 100 percent na fully vaccinated from our target. Ang atoang 18-59 years old, niabot na sa 125.72 percent,” she said.

High vaccination turnout was also recorded among college students as it is a requirement for their face-to-face classes.

Meanwhile, the Bakuna para sa Katawhan sa Kadayawan held on Saturdays of August inoculated a total of 2,421 individuals – 855 on August 13, 676 on August 20, and 890 on August 27.

Schlosser said the Vaccination Cluster and the Davao City COVID-19 Task Force sees the importance of holding vaccinations during weekends when Dabawenyos are mostly available to visit the vaccination sites. This is why they are discussing the possibility of extending the vaccination to Saturdays or Sundays.

The city’s district health centers are currently the ones catering to the COVID-19 vaccination from Mondays to Fridays.
