House of Hope to conduct fundraising concert for kids with cancer

THE HOUSE of Hope Foundation (HoHF) for Kids With Cancer announced a fundraising concert, “A Night of Music for Kids of Hope,” featuring FIVERA, Thailand’s pop-opera group at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 at SMX Convention Center.

During the Kapihan sa PIA on Oct. 16, Dr. Mae Dolendo, HoHF program director, said the concert proceeds will benefit the young cancer patients they serve.

“We are hoping that with this activity, we will be able to generate more funds, para matabangan nato ang mga bata nga naa’y cancer dili lang diri sa Davao City but sa tibuok Mindanao,” Dolendo said.

Currently, the foundation has 15-20 outpatients, 35-40 admitted, and more than 120 new cases for this year, with ages 0-19 years old. Most of the patients came from the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

Dolendo also shared they have been receiving cancer cases from the foundation’s four shared care facilities in Cagayan de Oro, Tagum, General Santos, and Bukidnon, and planned to reach out to two more areas in Mati and Cotabato City.

“We hope na matabangan namo sila to develop their facilities and capacity nila to care for children with cancer kay kabalo naman ta nga kung daghan kaayo’g pasyente, dili man sila maatiman og maayo,” Dolendo said.

With the assistance they offer, especially for the patients’ cancer therapy and ongoing medications,

Dolendo said the foundation continuously maximized benefits contributed by the government, including training for cancer medical specialists for children.

“We’ll ensure that we will give them (patients) the fighting chance to fight cancer and to win. We may not win every one but we will save a lot of them,” she added.

The House of Hope Foundation also partnered with the Department of Education to equip teachers with the necessary knowledge to handle sensitive information regarding children’s cancer.

The fundraising concert tickets are available through the foundation’s Facebook page, Kids of Hope
