USEP annex campus to be built in Brgy. Marilog

The University of the Southeastern Philippines (USEP) will establish an annex campus in Barangay Malabog for indigenous people students living in far-flung and conflict-affected areas.

“One of the outputs that the Peace 911 in Paquibato area presented is the need of a college school for the students there who will soon be graduating from senior high. This is to catch senior high graduate students who don’t want to go down the city anymore for college education,” she said.

She also said that the college may help those students who do not have the financial capacity to finish their education.

The city government, together with the Peace 911 and Barangay Malabog, had come up with a resolution endorsing the construction of a state campus in the area.

“They had a table-to-table discussion regarding the establishment of the school. Part of their mandate is to put a college education to conflict-affected areas,” she said, as the meeting was conducted a few days ago.

The USeP immediately agreed and initially started the process, with the city government preparing the memorandum of understanding.

The city government allotted P54 million for the infrastructure. The budget for the feasibility study worth P1.2-P1.5 million will be shouldered by the city government.

“We have an annual budget for 2020 to be allocated for that,” she said.
The expected construction for the school will be in 2021 or 2022, the mayor added.
