Ten-hour blaze

  • Damage from warehouse fire hit P13 million – BFP

THE FIRE that wiped out a warehouse of construction materials along Sobrecarey Street, Barrio Obrero, Barangay 14-B, left damage worth P13 million, the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) revealed.

Senior Officer 4 Ramil Gillado, Davao City Fire District (DCFD) Intelligence and Investigation Section chief, identified the owner of the warehouse where the fire started around  6:32 p.m. as Jimmy Go.

Even though firefighters responded to the area immediately, the incident reached the second alarm and lasted ten hours before they could contain the flames.

Gillado explained the toxic materials inside the warehouse made it more difficult for firefighters to fight the blaze as they were also concerned about the dangerous fumes.

Na under control kagabi pa pero ang fire out dugay kay nag clearing operation medyo dugay jud kay bodega daghan stock sa sulod need jud nga ukayon para masiguro nga wala nay baga ug nag aso para dili mag rekindle (We already contained the fire last night but the clearing operation took longer than expected because of the stocks inside that needed to be sorted out to avoid rekindling the flames).”

The BFP declared a fire out at 4:24 a.m. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident. The firefighters also conducted a clearing operation at around noon of Sept. 22 for maximum safety.

For now, investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
