Tabula Rasa | Davao creative economy for a strong peace economy

The PEACE ECONOMY launching held at the Finster Hall in the Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City on November 20, 2019 was well attended by personnel from different sectors- the city government, the restaurant and retail business, the military and police, education and the media.

Mayor Sara Duterte of Davao City commissioned Mrs. Irene ‘Inday’ M. Santiago to lead the PEACE ECONOMY program, its plans and implementations. The PEACE ECONOMY is initiated by Peace 911 of the Davao City government in partnership with the restaurant association under the leadership of Mr. Benjie Lizada and Hellen’s Farm NCCC to help improve the lives of the people of Paquibato and Barangay Dominga of Calinan which is adjacent to Paquibato. The objective of the partnership is to professionalize the vegetable industry of this part of Davao City from production to retailing. Paquibato belongs to the Third District of Davao City with 13 barangays.

To create the branding campaign of PEACE ECONOMY, the services of Tabula Rasa artist Daryl Descallar was hired who then developed the visual campaign materials following the parameters set by the PEACE ECONOMY team.

The PEACE ECONOMY logo which was envisioned by Mr. Benjie Lizada and designed by Daryl Descallar communicates the program’s objective- a community of producers, movers, retailers, the government and consumers patronizing and sharing their own products and services that leads to a growing community and promote a better quality of life and equality.

The program adopted a fitting tagline. It describes what it wants to do to promote peace and prosperity in the community-
PEACE ECONOMY Sharing Wealth.
A compendium was printed to educate and raise awareness of the need to financially support the program and get technical expertise to develop the vegetable value chain in Paquibato District. For the retail end, gondolas and display modules were designed following a visual art style to strengthen the brand image of the PEACE ECONOMY. Display modules in the supermarket for fruits and vegetables and gondolas for the HORECA industry (hotels, restaurants and cafes) for packed food products and souvenir items from Paquibato and other merchandise will be on display around the city.

The visual campaign of the PEACE ECONOMY gives a good opportunity for the creative economy in Davao City by hiring professional creative services and production of advertising collaterals. Aside from that, artists are partnering with PEACE ECONOMY through an art exhibit and competition initiated by artist Ega Carreon. The event is entitled, COLORS FOR PEACE.

Congratulations to Mayor Sara Duterte, Mrs. Irene Santiago, Mr. Benjie Lizada of Taps and Bistro Rosario, Mr. Roger Baay of Peace 911 and Mr. Macoy Samante of ADDU for a job well done in the launching of the PEACE ECONOMY program. The visual artists of Davao City will definitely promote the PEACE ECONOMY in the best way they can using their talents. We will have more opportunities to help develop the creative economy of the city and further advance the good cause of the PEACE ECONOMY.
