Soldiers donate part of salaries

Soldiers of the 30th Infantry Battalion (30IB) donated a portion of their May salary to help in COVID-19 pandemic efforts.

Lt. Col. Jeffrey A Villarosa, commanding officer of the 30th IB, said, “We believe that if we help hand in hand to address this crisis, there is a bigger chance to stop the spread of this virus,” Villarosa said.

“The people need to stay at home to help fight the COVID-19 while we are ensuring the peace and order in the province of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Island,” he added.

On the contrary, he said the New People’s Army continues to extort money from businesses and individuals in Caraga even in the middle of the pandemic.

He said the rebels should stop their extortion activities since the people need food, medicines, and money right now.

“If you are truly the freedom fighters that you say you are, then I urge you to work with us to have a stronger and united country that will face this COVID-19 pandemic,” he further said.
