SECURE CHURCHGOERS | DCPO readies security plan for ‘Misa de Gallo’

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) has assigned 600 law enforcers to secure 41 churches for the Misa de Gallo or dawn mass.

The dawn mass is a traditional nine-day Eucharistic celebration beginning Dec. 16 and leading up to Christmas Eve.

In a recent interview, Maj. Catherine dela Rey, DCPO spokesperson, reminded Davaoeños to be aware of individuals who are trying to take advantage of the Christmas season to commit crimes.

“If you see unattended things or suspicious individuals report immediately to the nearest security personnel around,” she added.

She said the DCPO also requested augmentation from the Police Regional Office XI to secure the Christmas Day gift-giving tradition of the Duterte family at the ancestral house of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte along Taal Road, Central Park Subdivision, Barangay Bangkal.

Dela Rey said around 40,000 food packs would be distributed to the Davaoeños during the gift-giving activity.

“We need more security personnel to maintain the flow of the whole activity,” she said.

On Friday, at least 9,000 security personnel were deployed in the city to ensure safety and security for the month-long celebration of Pasko Fiesta.

In a recent interview, Angel Sumagaysay, the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) chief, said the personnel will be deployed until December 25.

“All members of the security clusters will provide personnel,” Sumagaysay said.
