Sara: Bankerohan still open

Bankerohan Public Market will not be closed down to buyers despite the reported confirmed COVID-19 case in the barangay.

In a radio interview, Mayor Sara Duterte said, “there is no plan to close the Bankerohan area.”

She noted that the vendor who tested positive of COVID-19 is already brought to a center. Her husband and two kids were also placed in isolation in their house.

Earlier, Barangay 5-A chief Edgar Ibuyan Sr. said the vendor wasn’t selling inside Bankerohan but on the sidewalk in a wet market owned by the Marforis.

Duterte, however, warned the public about the risks of buying food not just in Bankerohan, but also in other wet markets and grocery stores.

“I just want to dispute that there is no safe area outside, even outside of your house. There is no safe area if there is already a positive in your area,” she said, stressing that it is “incorrect” to say that “Bankerohan is safe.”

“What we are doing is we ask our barangay to conduct disinfection every afternoon, every day on our public markets, and the surrounding areas of their public markets where there is usually mass convergence,” Duterte added.
