Resumption of Roxas Market to result in fewer vendors: Sara

Mayor Sara Duterte admitted that only a few vendors could be accommodated when the Roxas Market eventually resumes operations.

“We can expect nga ing-ana [control of the number of vendors at the Roxas Night Market] ang mahitabo because of the new normal requirements of [physical] distancing,” said Duterte as the market, the center of night life in the citybefore the onslaught of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Duterte, however, said there is no specific date as to the reopening of the market even as the city is set to transition to another quarantine protocols as the general community quarantine is set to end on June 30.

“Of course di nato gusto nga next year pa because dili nato gusto padugayon ang delay sa pagbalik sa trabaho and sa negosyo sa tao,” she added.

She also said the reopening of the Roxas Night Market will entirely be dependent on the quarantine measures that will be imposed.

The Roxas Night Market, despite having been bombed in September 2016, had gained popularity as a destination not only among the locals but also tourists.

To cushion the impact of its closure, vendors were provided assistance through cash-for-work initiatives and other social assistance measures.
