PUBLISER’S NOTES: HUMANITY’ “RESET BUTTON”

SENIORS FIRST — The WHO (World Health Organization) has made public its decision that when a COVID vaccine is available globally , all those aged 65 and above will get the first shot. WHO estimated that about 20% of every country’s population who belong to the “most vulnerable” sector will be prioritized. WHO has set up the COVAX Global Vaccines Facility to do this. It is now in the process of “inviting” nations to join for a better and equitable handling of vaccines that are soon to be made available to the whole world.

“ HERD IMMUNITY?”—There’s also no truth about the so-called “herd immunity” that can combat the virus. WHO has debunked earlier theories of a possible “herd immunity” or an immunity that will spread naturally to those close to someone who recovered or survived after being tested as “positive”.
“Let’s not live in hope of herd immunity being our salvation. Right now, that is not a solution”.

DON’T BET ON VACCINE — Foreign experts continue to say that a vaccine will not serve as a “silver bullet” that will put a total stop to the pandemic. Humanity must accept this as a new reality or our so-called “new normal”. So perish the thought that we will all be back soon to where we were before the virus reared its ugly head. I call this “a reset button” for humanity. Let’s all accept this reality.

DENGUE FATAL— Two young siblings – aged 8 and 2- recently died due to dengue in Calinan Proper. That’s still another danger that we all have to face. We must disinfect thoroughly our surroundings especially areas with stagnant waters.

“MULCTERS “— I just got an info from someone close to me that she received a phone call from a group claiming as rebels of the “CPP/NPA/NDF” asking for “money or else.” Really? My guess is they are simple  “mulcters” out for quick money!

FUN DRIVE — The Davao City Sports Cars Club headed by TIMES “big boss”, UM President and sportsman Willie Torres had a fun drive to Magpet, North Cotabato, LTO 12 Director Bong Gonzaga’s hometown last Friday. Sorry guys, I missed this event again. Next time, maybe…

CAROL ARGUILLAS — I had an interesting text-chat with Journalist Carol a few days ago. She now runs MindaNEWS. She was formerly with Manila Chronicle during our younger days ( but she’s still lookin’ young up to now).

I remember Carol those early days when I was congressman in 1987 ( wow 33 years ago) and she was still in “mini” skirts then. That was the time when Quezon Boulevard residents in Davao City said they saw “miraculous” footprints of the Sto Nino on the muddy sidewalk. Yes, we saw those small footprints too when we went to check.

By the way, Carol gave me a deadline to finish my ongoing work on my book “I WALKED WITH PRESIDENTS”. Yes Ma,am! Best efforts !

COASTAL ROAD — I visited to inspect the Seagull Beach resort in Punta Dumalag Friday and on the way saw a portion of the ongoing construction of a coastal road along the Davao Gulf shoreline that closed the whole length of Talomo beach, Times beach and other areas from the south to the north along the city’s coast line. The new access road will be a great relief to an already traffic-congested Davao City. Hopefully to be opened soon before President Rody ends his term in 2022.

US ELECTIONS — The November elections this year in USA are coming to a head with Republican “maverick” Donald Trump being challenged by Democrat “holier-than-thou” Joe Biden, the latter ahead per latest survey results. But we all know it’s still “anybody’s game”. Will Biden “trumple” Trump or will Trump win the poll “bidding” against Biden? Let’s place our bets! ( “Heads” I win, “tails” you lose.. hahaha! )
