P1.3-M released to SPMC workers infected with virus

The city government has released P1.3 million to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) health workers who contracted the coronavirus infection.

The amount was part of the commitment of Mayor Sara Z. Duterte to use her one-year salary as part of the trust fund for hospital frontliners infected with the virus. The annual salary of the mayor is at P2.1 million.

She said each of the 26 recipients received P50,000 each as assistance as they were those infected with the virus.

Dr. Ricardo Audan, SPMC Medical Professional Staff head, said that of the 1,661 hospitals who were tested for the virus, those found positive were 13 physicians, seven nurses and six administrative employees.

Duterte said she is hoping that no other health workers of the hospital would get infected as Audan earlier said there were several employees who decided to resign because of fear of being infected.

“Katong mga naghuna-huna nga mag resign, they are well within their right nga mag decide mo-resign. Nobody will judge them, nobody will think anything nga daotan sa ilaha because perfectly normal gyud na,” she added.
