Roxas Night Market still on pace to open on Sept. 12
THE CITY government is applying the finishing touches in preparation for the opening of the Roxas Night Market on Sept. 12.
Mayor Sara Duterte revealed on the Davao City Disaster Radio program that they started cleaning the area and installing lights since last week. This week, all the security preparations will be hammered out.
The city government also submitted the proposal to the infectious diseases specialist on how it would go about with the health protocols for both the vendors and the visitors inside the Roxas Night Market. Health officials also scheduled a baseline health swabbing.
“The baseline swab will cover all suppliers, vendors, and massage therapists,” she said. “They will all be swabbed, including the security (personnel) assigned to the area.”
The Roxas Night Market was originally scheduled to open on Sept. 1 but was pushed back because the preparations were not complete.
Initially, the night market will only operate at a 25% capacity to enforce physical distancing. Vendors will have a two-week rotation to give everybody a chance to earn for their respective families.
“Daghan ang mga vendors nato dinha nga kaniadto nga affected sa pagsirado tungod sa COVID-19 and we want them to resume sa ilahang livelihood (There are many vendors who are affected with the closure due to COVID-19 and we want them to resume their livelihood),” she said.
According to the City Information Office report, the mayor may also lift the liquor ban in October from the initial announcement of September.
“Under the list of the Department of Trade and Industry, bawal pa pud ang beerhouses, clubs and bars so least priority nato ang lifting sa liquor ban (beerhouses, clubs, and bars are still not allowed so the lifting of the liquor ban is our least priority),” she said. CIO
