Nine nabbed for gun ban since Jan. 6: DCPO spox

Nine suspects are facing charges since the implementation of the gun ban last Jan. 6.

Capt. Rosario Aguilar, the spokesperson of Davao City Police Office, told reporters yesterday in the AFP-PNP press briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel that eight of the nine violators were arrested in January.

“Most of those arrested have failed to present legal documents for their firearms,” she said.

The total gun ban in the city was implemented on Jan. 6 after the Philippine National Police headquarters approved the request of Mayor Sara Duterte. The DCPO received the memo from PNP Director General Archie Gamboa the day after.

With the memo, she said gun holders will now be prohibited from bringing firearms within the city.

The approval was in line with the lapsing of Martial Law in Mindanao on Dec. 31, 2019.

She said the city implemented the said measures to easily identify threats entering the city.
