The number of individuals affected by the high tide and strong waves brought by the monsoon waves rose to a thousand based on the data of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
The incident report show that 1,098 individuals are now affected. The figure was initially pegged at 800.
Authorities reported that 236 houses were affected – 96 totally destroyed and 140 partially damaged – after having been hit by the strong waves from Saturday until yesterday.
The most affected is Barangay Bago Aplaya, Talomo District with 185 families affected.
Other barangays affected were Brgy. 21-C followed with affected 70 families, Brgy. 22-C with 40 families, Brgy. 22-C with 24 families, Brgy. Bucana with 24 affected families, Brgy. Daliao with 24 affected families, Brgy. Governor Vicente Duterte with 14 families, Brgy. Matina Aplaya with 10 families, and Brgy. Lapu-lapu with two families.
There have been a total of 236 family-evacuees or 595 individuals from the nine barangays that were temporarily housed at the barangay halls, gymnasiums, or chapels until noontime yesterday.
According to CDRRMO Chief Operations Officer Rodrigo Bustillo, Acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte participated in the distribution of relief food and non-food items yesterday at Brgy. Matina Aplaya.
CDRRMO chief Alfredo Baloran said, “monsoon waves are expected annually from August to October.”
“We have prepared for this monsoon waves because occur yearly. We went around the coastal barangay to inform them for this kind of situations,” he said.
