The Jose Maria College (JMC) launched the College of Medicine Foundation (CMF) on Sunday, making it the first academic institution to open a medical school after the passing of the Universal Health Care Law.
It’s also the third medical school in Davao City and the first medicine-related post-graduate course of JMC.
“You (JMC) are the first college of medicine approved after the approval of the Universal Health Care,” Commissioner Dr. J. Prospero “Popoy” E. De Vera III Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman told the audience during the launching at the Marco Polo Hotel.
The JMC boasts that its medical school will be the only that will co-create the Universal Health Care platform to make preventive, curative, and rehabilitative medical care in the hands of the people.
De Vera also challenged the management of the said academic institution to correct the historical
injustice by providing a new direction in medicine.
“The historical justice I am talking about is that the Mindanao is always disadvantaged when it comes to access to higher education,” de Vera said.
“This (launching of CMF) is part of the answer of the historical injustice especially that most of the developments have been centralized in Manila alone and none here. We are so glad to be the answer of that historical injustice,” Rev. Apollo Quiboloy, founding president of the institution, said.
He added that the direction of the said CMF will be toward excellence.
To anyone interested, the initial requirements include the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) result, certificate of general weighted average, transcript of records and diploma, certificate of good moral character and/or recommendation letter from two reputable sources.
As part of the admission criteria, applicants are encouraged to submit certificate/s of professional licensure examination, certificate/s of extracurricular activities, and curriculum vitae The JMCF also offers an academic scholarship to students with latin honors OR to those students who have shown exemplary academic performance.
Applicants must also submit a 500-1,000-word scholarship essay on why he or she deserves the
scholarship grant and income tax return from the BIR.
