Independence Day peaceful: police

THE ENTIRE Davao Region remained peaceful during the commemoration of the 125th Independence Day on June 12.

This was the assessment of Brigadier General Alden Delvo, Police Regional Office XI director, in an interview with reporters after Monday’s ceremony at Rizal Park, where he was the guest of honor and speaker.

Delvo said the police recorded no significant incidents during the simultaneous celebrations by different local government units.

While there were some pocket protest rallies, the police employed maximum tolerance since it was not illegal for people to take their grievances to the streets.

Acting City Mayor J Melchor Quitain presided over the flag ceremony and wreath-laying on Monday morning at Rizal Park, with government officials, law enforcement units, and security forces in attendance.
