Fire razes over 250 houses in two barangays in 10 hours

More than 250 houses in two barangays were gobbled by fire on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday dawn.

At a little past 4 p.m., two residential houses of Block 81, Purok 6 in Barangay 21-C were razed by fire. The incident occurred near the community zone that was placed on lockdown due to the COVID-19 infection.

Meanwhile, another fire gobbled more or less 250 shanty houses in two puroks at the coastline of New Society Village in Barangay Ilang on Wednesday dawn.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Ramil Gillado, the investigation chief of Bureau of Fire and Protection XI, said the fire in Barangay 21-C started at the ceiling of the ground floor of the house owned by Arthuro Nayre. They received a report at 4:15 p.m. and immediately responded to the scene.

They declared a fire-out at 4:40 p.m. and no casualty was reported. But eight families were displaced as a result. The estimated cost of damage was placed at P300,000.

For now, the investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the fire in Barangay Ilang started at the ceiling portion of the house owned by Ronald Barrio.

Accordingly, the occupants noticed the fire at around 2:30 a.m. and immediately spread to the nearby houses, which were mostly made of light and wooden materials, in zones 3-C and 3-B.

Firefighters declared a fire-out at 4:32 am. There was no casualty reported in the incident.

The estimated cost of damage was at least P750,000. Gillado said they are still investigating the probable cause of the fire.

Gillado said they also received reports of grass fires, rubbish fire, and a vehicle on fire during the lockdown period.
