Eidul Fitr road closures on April 10-11 

ROXAS Avenue and Claveria M. Recto Street to Padre Faura will be closed on April 10-11 for the Centralized Eidul Fitr Congregational Prayer.

The event is set tentatively from 4 a.m. to noon on April 10, depending on the result of the moon sighting on April 9.

The 20th City Council approved the ordinance for the road closure during the special session on Friday, April 5. 

The Davao City Centralized Eid Prayer Council co-chairman Gabriel F. Nakkan sent a letter to the city mayor Sebastian Duterte on March 22, to close certain parts of Roxas Avenue specifically the night market area.

The letter reads this annual event of the Muslim community in the city is to “show unity and living harmoniously with all nationality and Moro ethnic cultures alike.”

The event, organized by the council will feature the obligatory Eidul Fitr prayer and spiritual message to all attendees.

The event will use both sides of Roxas Avenue, the Ateneo de Davao University side and the former Aldevinco side. 

According to the proposed traffic plan of the city transport and traffic management office, the Padre Zamora St. will be utilized for entry of VIP and emergency vehicles.

Meanwhile, vehicles from C.M. Recto via Roxas are advised to take E. Jacinto Street, while those from Quezon Boulevard are advised to take Padre Faura Street to Juan de la Cruz Street to C. Bangoy St.

Malacañang through Proclamation No. 514, declared April 10, as a regular holiday throughout the country to observe the Feast of Ramadhan.

“To bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eidul Fitr to the fore of the national consciousness, and to allow the entire Filipino nation to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance,” the proclamation reads.
