DOST XI to donate digital library to Davao City gov’t

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XI will donate a digital library, dubbed Starbooks or the Science and Technology Academic and Research Based Openly Operated Kiosks, to the city library.

The City Council recently referred proposed memorandum of agreement to the commmitee on education, science and technology, and arts and culture. The agreement will be signed by the City Library and Information Center and the DOST XI.

The project is pursuant to the mandate of DOST to promote “information and communications technology (ICT) related projects for the advancement of the DOST XI.”

The city government is mandated to “enhance education by providing holistic and quality co-curricular program, projects, and activities that will prepare the Filipino children and youth towards the new millennium and to deliver quality, effective, and efficient educational services.”

The Science and Technology Academic and Research Based Openly Operated Kiosks or Starbooks is among the priority programs of the DOST in the past two years.

The digital library was developed by the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute, and it “serves as one-stop repository of S&T information that can be updated regularly. It provides offline access to over 500,000 digitized journals, publications, technical and project reports, theses and dissertations, and directories.”
