DIADC to conduct first-ever Asia Durian Summit in Davao

THE DURIAN Industry Association of Davao City (DIADC) will conduct the first-ever Philippine Asia Durian Summit from Oct. 25 to 27.

Emmanuel Belviz, DIADC president, said the summit will become a platform for the exchange of ideas and technology to catch up to other Asian countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia have greatly seen its market potential.

“Actually, sa nakausap ko, they do not see us as a competitor, but as a collaborator,” Belviz said.

Belviz said this will also be helpful and additional learning to our local growers, as the majority of them are still ‘backyard’ farmers.

“Since nagsulod ning industry nga export to China, and medyo strict pud ni sila sa ilang qualifications, the farmer must have a proper set of records para ma-prove nato nga ang atoang produce is food-safe and good quality,” Belviz said.

He also said this will be a high time for local farmers to reach wider markets and networks.

Through the help of Integrated Market Services Asia (IMSA), some experts from the durian market industry, international and national Durian tourism speakers, the Plant Quarantine Service, and other guests were invited to the notable event.

The three-day event will consist of a plenary, Durian Trade and Exhibit, and an exclusive field trip for guests, with an expected range of 1,500 participants attending from international, national, and local sectors.
