DepEd XI launches web portal

The newly installed online application system of the Department of Education (DepEd) XI will make it easier to process the renewal of private schools in the city and region.

The DepEd XI launched last Friday, Feb. 7, the Online Application System for Private Schools (OASPS).

The application system is one of the initiatives of DepEd XI regional director Evelyn R. Fetalvero in monitoring and validating the process of private schools applying for renewal and operation in the region.

DepEd XI spokesperson Jenielito Atillo told TIMES in an interview that Davao “is the very first region in the entire country that has this online application for private schools with renewal applications.”

“This somehow eases things up in response to the directive of the President that we have to double time with the provision of public service,” Atillo said.

He said that the online system will only focus on the renewal applications for now, as it is still on its pilot stage, stressing that “this is quite a massive facility and there a lot of applications the department (region) has to cater.”

“There will be more features to be added in the days to come,” he said.

Atillo said that with the online system, the application process of every client (private school applicant) “can be reduced to even a half day or less.”

The new system will reduce taxing efforts from both applicants and renewing body (DepEd) as the application allows each party to be able to access, submit, and review required documents as this has been made available online through a portal.

“Even if we are not present in the office or we are on official business, or even out of the country, we can still work on the applications of the clients,” he said, stressing that it contributes to a paperless application and renewal process.

“Imagine, from three folders that they submitted before, now it can be reduced into one folder.”

Among the applications accepted by the portals are new applications (new schools), new courses or programs application added by a particular private school client, and old schools intending to add new grade levels (senior high school).

Atillo said when private school applicants submit their requirements for renewal to the schools division office, their documents will be scanned and evaluated. The application will then be uploaded to the portal and forwarded to the regional office for further evaluation.

Meanwhile, DepEd XI education program supervisor Maflor Dingal also told TIMES that the pilot application is only operated by the department intended for the private schools within the Davao Region.

She added that only those concerned DepEd personnel and compliant applicants can access the portal.
