THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) reported no untoward incident during the inauguration of vice president-elect Sara Duterte on Sunday.

DCPO spokesperson Maj. Teresita Gaspan on Monday said, “we have successfully executed all the security measures and protocols that we have prepared as a result of a solemn, orderly, and successful conduct of the inauguration of the incoming vice president Sara Duterte. ”

“And we owe these to our task group Davao comprising the security cluster. In view thereof, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the (members of the) task group who have sacrifice themselves for the successful conduct of the full security coverage of the inauguration,” Gaspan said.

She added that it was not easy considering the estimated crowd of 20,000.

As early as midnight of Thursday, June 16, the five-day gun ban started in Davao region.

More than 3,700 security forces were deployed to secure the event. Moreover, from June 16 to 20, certain streets going to San Pedro Street have been regulated as “no entry” and “no parking” areas.

Along with random inspections, authorities have designated drop-off points for guests to further ensure the security of the event.

DCPO chief Col. Alberto Lupaz, said at least 2,000 police officers secured the venue and that COVID-19 protocols, such as wearing of face masks, were enforced strictly.

On Saturday, the outgoing mayor inspected the area of San Pedro Square, where she was sworn in as the country’s 15th vice president by Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando, a close friend and former professor.

While making the rounds of the venue and the iconic San Pedro Street, the incoming vice president hobnobbed and took selfies with residents.

She also stood in front of the city hall on the eve of her inaugural and thanked law enforcers for their efforts.
