Nearly 4,000 individuals were arrested by the Davao City Police Office for violating quarantine measures since March 15.
Based on the records of the DCPO, from March 15 to June 27, a total of 3,894 were arrested and 1,564 cases filed against the violators.
The city has been placed under community quarantine since March 15, scaled up to general community quarantine, shifted to enhanced community quarantine, and back to GCQ.
Of the total, 1,305 individuals were arrested for violating the curfew, 299 for liquor ban, 197 for social distancing/mass gathering, 44 for not wearing face masks, and 2,049 for misusing the food and medicine pass.
Below is the police breakdown of the arrests:
From March 15 to April 3
227 for curfew, 76 for liquor ban, one for not wearing a face mask, five for social distancing/mass gathering, and 90 cases filed.
From April 4 to May 15, 2020
1,333 for FM pass, 871 for curfew, 108 for liquor ban, 38 for face masks, 112 for social distancing/mass gathering, and 1,028 cases filed.
From May 16 to June 27
716 for FM pass, 207 for curfew, 115 for liquor ban, 80 for social distancing/mass gathering, five for face masks, and 446 cases were filed.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested 40 suspects on 15 operations conducted against hoarding, overpricing, and profiteering. They also seized 3,191 liters of alcohol,50 boxes face masks, eight boxes of surgical gloves, 88 units of infrared thermal scanners, 1,405 bottles of disinfectant/liquid soap, 26 sacks of kalamansi, 40 sacks of rice, 77 kilos of vegetables.
Recently, Col. Kirby John Kraft, Davao City Police Office director, reminded the public that they will continue to enforce the quarantine measures even if the city further relaxes its restrictions when it shifts to the modified general quarantine after June 30.
“Because there is still quarantine, there are restrictions of movement,” he said. “The curfew and liquor bans will still be there unless the mayor (Sara Duterte) will release a new executive order.”
Currently, there are 44 quarantine control points manned by the police and Task Force Davao in the different areas in the city, mostly located near wet markets. “If going outside houses are not essential then don’t go out since our unseen enemy is still there,” he added.
