DCPO receives 55 motorbikes from City Hall

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) on Wednesday received 55 motorcycles from City Hall, which will then be distributed to selected police stations to aid in the anti-criminality drive.

The Sta. Ana, San Pedro, Talomo, Sasa, Toril, and Ecoland police stations, along with the First City Mobile Force Company, got four units each while those in Maa, Buhangin, Bajada, Tugbok, Bunawan, Baliok, Calinan and Mandug and the 2nd City Mobile Force Company got three units each.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte, who led the turnover on behalf of the city government, said that since the motorcycles are small, they can easily maneuver and reach narrow hallways to fight crime.

In his speech, DCPO director Col. Alberto Lupaz thanked the city government for its generosity.

He said that the motorcycles would be useful in the police’s day-to-day operations.

“We expect nga daghan namo’g makita nga police sa Davao nga magsuroy nagdala’g motor, muresponde ang uban magmotor na kay ang uban nga patrol naguba naman po. mao gyud ni ang pinaka-primary nga magamit nato sa mga emergency nga makaresponde dayon like mga traffic accidents, naa’y robbery maka-penetrate dayon. So dako gyud kaayo ni’g tabang sa amoa (We expect that you can see police officers moving around using the motorcycles to respond, others will use it instead of patrol cars as some are for repair. The [motorcycles] will be primarily used in emergencies for immediate response to traffic accidents, and when there is a robbery the police can easily penetrate. So, this is really a huge help for us),” Lupaz said.

He added that this scheme of using vehicles has been utilized by the previous director of DCPO and it is only being revived.

During the program, the mayor said that if the police would perform more with the use of the vehicles, he might increase the number of motorcycles given to them.

The blessing was attended by city officials, DCPO officials, and DCPO station and unit commanders.
