Dayaw Suroy caravan to raise awareness for IPs

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has organized the Dayaw Suroy Media Caravan in celebration of the Indigenous Peoples Month in October.

The IP month celebration officially started last Oct. 2 held with a formal opening at the NCCA lobby, which featured discussions on the importance of IP knowledge in nation-building.

Dayaw Suroy (Suroy, a Bisaya term for stroll) highlights the richness of the cultural communities and native tradition through a media caravan in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

According to Alphonsus Tesoro, NCCA commissioner of Subcommision of Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts, it is important to enjoin all sectors in celebrating the IP month.

“The government is recognizing the significant role, the participation, and the contribution of the indigenous peoples’ communities in nation-building,” he added.

The highlight of the celebration is Kálkalí national forum from Oct. 28 to 29 at the Maryhill School of Theology in Quezon City. The forum expects active participation of around 200 teachers, local government functionaries, researchers, and the media from across the country.
