The Bago Aplaya to Matina Aplaya Segment A portion of the 18.2-kilometer coastal road is expected to be opened this year, council public works chair Councilor Jesus P. Zozobrado III said.According to Zozobrado, the opening of this portion will help ease traffic congestion in Ulas. The City Transport and Traffic Management Office observed the highest volume of commuters and vehicles in the area during peak hours.
Furthermore, the concern of fisherfolk is currently evaluated by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI.
“They are requesting to adjust their boat landing because the initial space allocated by the DPWH is not enough for the numbers of existing boats,” Zozobrado said on Tuesday.
The Bago Aplaya boat landing allows only 30 boats to dock. The DPWH XI is still working on finding a new location for landing, taking in the inputs of the affected fisherfolk.
Despite the adjustments, the 2017 contract package of the coastal road project is now 87% finished. The entire coastal road project under five packages of 2017 is worth P19.8 billion, with a completion target of 2021.
In January this year, the DPWH downloaded an additional P2 billion for the completion of Segment A. This portion stretches 1.682 kilometers from Bago Aplaya to Times Beach.
