Coast Guard welcomes Indon vessel

THE COAST Guard District Southeastern Mindanao welcomed the arrival of the Indonesian vessel, KN Gajah Laut 404, on Monday, Nov. 20, at Panacan Wharf, Department of Public Works and Highways XI.

This marked the beginning of a new chapter in the maritime relations between the Philippines and Indonesia.

Commodore Rejard Marfe, commander of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao, said the purpose of the visit is to strengthen the bilateral ties and enhance the cooperation between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Badan Keamanan Laut (Indonesian Maritime Security Agency).

Today, Nov. 21, the two countries will hold a bilateral meeting between the Philippine Coast Guard commandant and the Indonesian Coast Guard.

Among the things that can be discussed on how to combat illegal entry, the entry of smuggled goods and foods, and the coordination of the two countries during search and rescue operations.
