THE CITY has benefited from its sisterhood agreements when its two sisters in China reached out to send help.
April Marie Dayap, Davao City Investment and Promotion (DCIPC) chief, said the Chinese cities, aside from sending letters of sympathy, also sent medical donations.
Dayap said: “(The) Jinjiang Municipal People’s Government and Nanning Municipal People’s Government were prompt to send medical and personal protective equipment to Davao City.”
She said Nanning donated 8,000 pieces of face masks to the city in October last year while Jinjiang PanPan Groups donated 1,162 boxes of medical supplies earlier in in April 2020.
Also donated were 1.1 million facemasks from Jinjiang Panpan Food Company, 500 units of infrared thermometer, and 3,000 pieces of personal protective equipment from Jinjiang.
Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian and the Davao Fil-Chinese Multi-Sectoral Association also donated 20 respiratory machines, 1,200 pieces of infrared thermometers, 10,020 pieces of protective septic suits, 2,000 pieces face shields, 600 pieces’ protective goggles, 9,660 N95 masks, and 37,500 pairs of gloves.
Dayap said the donated supplies were distributed to 19 medical and emergency facilities in the city. Parts of the donations were also sent to the the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City; Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in Mati City; Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital in Digos City; Compostela Valley Provincial Hospital in Montevista; IGACOS General Hospital, Inc.; Davao Occidental Provincial Hospital; and, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
“Due to the strong ties forged between Davao City and its sister cities, the former has greatly benefitted especially during the early stage of the pandemic,” Dayap said.
Dayap has expressed her gratitude to the sister cities for extending their help during these trying times. “Their thoughtful gesture has truly reaffirmed our mutual commitment which is to boost cooperation in all possible areas especially when assistance is badly needed,” she said.
She added: “It is during these trying times that our sisterhood agreement may serve its purpose as we fight this global crisis together. It is our hope that your city remains resilient in the face of the difficulties we are all experiencing at this time. We know that together, we will recover from the public health emergency and we look forward to seeing your city rise again.”
