Mayor Sara Duterte has revealed that an estimated amount of P100 million will be needed for the establishment of the city college.
During a recent press conference, she disclosed the allocation budget to fully implement the city college not later than August.
Duterte said that P50 million will be needed for the construction of the college, P35 million will be utilized for the salaries of the college admins, teachers and personnel. Meanwhile, the remaining P15 million will be allocated for other expenditures, which, as of now, she did not specify.
However, Duterte admitted that she is still scouting for funds as the estimated allocation for the city college is a bit high.
“As of now, the funds are still not available, as the needed budget is a bit expensive. The city college needs P100 million to start,” she said.
But she said that they can source the funds from the Supplemental Budget last year.
Despite the funds being unavailable for the meantime, Duterte said that the feasibility study, learning manuals, and the city college admin and personnel are all readied.
“The budget is what we just need, apart from it, we already prepared everything and the process,” she said.
The site for the temporary city college will be at the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Building in Quirino, but she said that they will still be scouting some sites for the final site of the official city college. She said that ALS will be utilized for the temporary period, as the city college is certified as urgent.
ALS would still be operating as the learning center for students in the morning, while the city college will be operating during the afternoon.
“I am still uncertain of the period as to until when we’ll still be occupying ALS. But we are currently looking for a separate site under the property of the city government,” she said. “We must find our own property and venue to have our city college its own place.”
