Agency to complete 60 new classrooms

About 2,000 students from rural areas in the Davao Region will benefit from the 60 classrooms that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 11 is building that are set to be completed within the year.

DSWD 11 Project Development Officer Ervin Rubio said the 60 classrooms are part of the 105 classrooms that the agency is building in Davao del Norte; Boston, Baganga, Caraga, Lupon, Mati and Cateel in Davao Oriental; Jose Abad Santos and Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental; Kiblawan, Davao del Sur; and Paquibato and Marilog District in the city.

He said they already turned over 30 classrooms in communities of Kapalong, Marilog, Cateel, Baganga, Lupon and San Isidro. These classrooms can accommodate about 40 students with each of them having chairs comfort rooms, ceiling fans and other needed facilities for the convenience of the students.

The project is under Construction of Classrooms for Lumad (CCL) project of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) of DSWD11 in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).

The Army Engineering Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is also helping the construction of schools especially in Talaingod and Kapalong after the contractors stopped the activities.
