Abude: Public positive on the 20-second rule

About a hundred jeepney drivers were already apprehended for violating the 20-second loading and unloading time in yellow boxes, the city traffic officer said.

City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) chief Dionisio Abude, in a press conference, said most drivers of public utility jeepneys (PUJ) were apprehended in the areas of Magallanes, C.M. Recto, and San Pedro during the first three weeks of the implementation.

The CTTMO is expanding to other streets as it is currently putting up signage along the busy Magsaysay (formerly Uyanguren) Street.

The office also continues paintings yellow boxes.

The implementation of the new traffic rule is set to extend to the whole stretch of the city by 2019.

Abude said commuters have expressed support to the new rule, which gives them ease as it cut the delay in their daily travel.

Commuters, he said, are also active in reminding the PUJ drivers in abiding the 20-second loading and unloading rule.

With the heavier traffic congestion in the city, Abude hopes that the cooperation of PUJ drivers and commuters will ease the traffic problems in the city.
