2024 IRONMAN 70.3 to feature new Davao City Coastal Road

THE IRONMAN 70.3 Davao is set to return on Aug. 11, 2024, a new midyear spot in the race calendar, with a new-look course highlighting the new Davao City Coastal road.

For next year’s challenge, athletes are tasked to swim 1.9-kilometer (km) parallel to the coast, cycle 90 km towards the MacArthur Highway, and back to the coastal road for the 21.1-km run, heading to the finish line.

During their signing ceremony on Oct. 25, Princess Galura, IRONMAN Group Philippines regional director said Davao City is a strong location for the brand, particularly when it comes to the management, accessibility, landscape, diverse accommodations, fully functional airport, and well-equipped responders.

Marami na po kaming nakatrabahong ibang mga siyudad, mga ibang tao, pero ang partnership namin with Davao, we feel and remain strong,” Galura said.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte also said this will not just further promote the city’s potential in sports tourism, but would also promote the health and wellness of the individuals.

“This (IRONMAN event) is one of the example nganong ginapakusgan nato ang sports tourism kay atoang area, dako kaayo. I think IRONMAN is a very prestigious event for such kind of activities,” Duterte said.

In line with this, the City Government of Davao also signed a partnership with the Municipality of Sta. Cruz, as the two-loop bike course will be heading south, turning around at KM 23 in Coronon, Sta. Cruz.

Sta. Cruz Mayor Jose Nelson Sala Sr. said they are collaborating with law enforcement agencies and the security sector for the safety of the spectators and participants.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Davao will be part of the IRONMAN Group’s 2024 Flex 90 offerings, wherein benefits are available when an athlete registers for the event within the first 90 days. The benefits are redeemable up to 45 days prior to the first date of transfers, partial refunds, and payment plans.

The next year’s event will target 1,500 participants all over the world. General entries to the 2024 IRONMAN 70.3 Davao also opened last Oct. 10.
