Police unit launches program for children

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) officially launched its annual Yuletide season activity that would benefit about 10,000 children.

Conceptualized by former DCPO director Alexander Tagum, the “Pamaskong Handog Alay sa Kabataan, the gift-giving campaign reflected the spirit of Christmas, a “time for the family, thanksgiving and generosity, as it is the season for showing love and compassion to others,” said Col. Alberto Lupaz, DCPO chief, in his message during the launch of the campaign at the DCPO headquarters at Camp Domingo Leonor.

Major Catherine Dela Rey, DCPO spokesperson, said the beneficiaries were children not older than 12 and that they received stuffed toys and food packs.

“Apart from that, they were also entertained by mascots during the program,” she said, pointing out that the agency is reaching out to children to inculcate in them that “the police is a friend na pwede nila maduolan kung naa sila concern.”

In a message, Mayor Sebastian Duterte, represented by Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) chief Angel Sumagaysay, commended the police unit for launching the program as it has benefited the children.

Duterte also urged the DCPO to continue practicing compassion and generosity even after the holidays as he vowed the support of the city government to everyone.
