2 suspects handcuffed after selling overpriced sanitizers

Two individuals who allegedly sold gallons of overpriced hand sanitizers were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in an entrapment operation in Fatima village, in front of the Chinese cemetery, on Saturday.

Atty. Jonathan Balite, NBI-Southeastern Mindanao acting regional director, identified the suspects as Gian Carlo Bacalso and Catherine Lunaria.
They were handcuffed when they allegedly received the payment from the undercover agent. Seized from them were 30 gallons of hand sanitizers amounting to P19,550.

The NBI then handed the seized item to the Food and Drug Administration for tests and verification.

NBI XI spokesperson Joel Ayop said they launched the operation after they were informed that the suspects posted an ad online. He said the suspects were selling them for P650 per gallon.

“We saw the post online, took an order, then entrapped (them),” he added.
For now, the two are under the custody of the NBI-Southeastern Mindanao office while a case for violation of RA 9711 (FDA law), RA 7581 (Price Act), and Consumers Act are being against them.
