Show-cause order

  • LTFRB Davao looking at taxi operator’s liability in fixed-rate scam

THE LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) XI has already issued a show-cause order to the operator whose taxi was involved in a fixed-rate scam by one of its drivers at the Davao International Airport.

The office is also investigating a taxi driver for alleged overcharging and inappropriate behavior.

On Tuesday, April 24, a complaint was filed against the STC taxi driver. The complaint, which included a taxi complaint sheet, was first revealed by Senator Ronald Dela Rosa in a social media post

The post was also confirmed by LTFRB XI director Nonito Llanos in an interview on Thursday afternoon.

Llanos said at around 8 a.m. on Thursday, they held a meeting with various stakeholders to address the complaint. Attendees included a representative from STC (the taxi company), the taxi operator concerned, Harvey Lanticse from the Davao City Information Office, and LTFRB officers.

The suspect, who was unable to attend the earlier meeting, arrived at the LTFRB Office accompanied by PSSG Michael T. Novencio of the Traffic Enforcement Unit around 11 a.m., Llanos said.

He said the representative of the taxi operator claimed they regularly remind their drivers to follow LTFRB rules and policies.

Llanos said the hearing for the show-cause order is scheduled for Monday, April 29, at 10 a.m. He said the hearing is part of the due process allowing the driver the opportunity to present his side of the story.

Moreover, the taxi operator will respond to the show-cause order at the scheduled hearing.

“The LTFRB will continue to investigate the matter and ensure that appropriate actions are taken in accordance with their regulations and procedures,” he further said.

On Wednesday’s AFP-PNP press briefing Land Transportation Office XI director Eleanor Calderon said the driver may be penalized P5,000 for breach of franchise since he did not use the meter in determining the correct fare.
