THE DAVAO City Jail-Female Dormitory (DCJ-FD) is seeking donations for its “Adopt-a-Cottage” project, which aims to rehabilitate the 20 Gawad Kalinga-Ray of Hope Village cottages within the facility.

“The DCJ-FD is one of a kind in the country,” said Jail Inspector Ellen Rose Saragena during an AFP-PNP briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on April 24. “We call our female PDLs ‘bakasyonistas’ because the environment here is different from other jails.”

These cottages serve various purposes beyond housing the PDLs.  “Some are used for livelihood programs like a commissary and salon, while others house a library,” Saragena explained.

Donations Needed

The “Adopt-a-Cottage” project seeks donations to enhance and repair the cottages.

“Since the cottages have been around for a while, some need repairs,” said Saragena. “We launched this program to allow individuals or organizations to ‘adopt’ a cottage by donating materials or monetary contributions.”

The DCJ-FD prioritizes material donations such as green-colored roofs, wood, cement, paint, plywood/hard flex, rubber mats/floor mats, and insulators.

How to Donate

Donations can be dropped off at BJMP XI Davao City Jail-Female Dormitory Post 1, Ma-a, Davao City.  You can also contact them at (082) 315-8627 or reach Jail Officer 1 Ira Pelin at 09465624523.

The DCJ-FD welcomes organizations or institutions interested in conducting skills training programs for the PDLs.
