Motorbike owners are told to wait for the official announcement from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) whether to carry an extra passenger at the back.
“We will wait for these guidelines because as I’ve said before when the IATF was created, all the LGUs will follow the guidelines,” she replied in her radio program on the question on when back-riders are allowed on motorcycles.
The national government has a “no back-ride policy” as part of the physical distancing measure to slow down the transmission of COVID-19.
During the ‘Laging Handa’ briefing on Saturday, June 20, 2020, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque revealed the recommendation to lift the ban was approved in principle. The national task force will also issue the guideline soon.
Meanwhile, the 18th City Council on Tuesday passed a resolution urging that the police to allow back-riders should not be limited to family members.
Second District Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, the proponent of the resolution, said that this is to address the difficulty of finding public transportation under the general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
“The return of motorcycle as one of the modalities of public transportation considered as sustainable and predictable in terms of route availability opens the general public a choice to avail of and at the same time, propel economic activity for these drivers who long to recover from this pandemic,” the resolution reads.
