Summit passes resolutions to solve women’s economic concerns

PARTICIPANTS of the annual Women’s summit passed several resolutions aiming to address the economic woes of women in the city.

About  400 women from the city’s three districts convened in the recently concluded 25th citywide Women’s Summit at the Grand Menseng Hotel on Tuesday, March 4.

Lorna Mandin, Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD) head, said the annual summit tackled various concerns, focusing on economic, political, and environmental issues.

The resolutions pushed for more livelihood capital assistance programs, increasing job opportunities for women, ensuring non-discriminatory hiring practices, promotion of local and female-made products to be displaced in dedicated women’s centers.

For political concerns, additional training sessions and seminars dedicated to fostering leadership skills and empowering women, such as voter education, were pushed.

In a phone interview on Thursday, Mandin told TIMES that the resolutions from the summit will be submitted to the Sanguniang Panlungsod and the Office of the City Mayor for appropriate action.

The summit involved youth, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

“The summit is multisectoral, to ensure that everyone is well represented and to ensure there will be new advocates especially from the youth,” Mandin added.
