NO CAROLING activities will be allowed by the city government for the Christmas season.
This was announced by Mayor Sara Duterte on Monday during her live broadcast in the Davao City Disaster Radio.
“Definitely (it is not allowed) because singing is one of the human activities much worse than talking,” she said.
The mayor also said it is the reason why churches are mandated to have only one singer during masses and prohibit community singing because it can possibly transmit droplets from one person to another.
She said the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that the virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they sing, cough, sneeze, speak or breathe heavily.
Meanwhile, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) head Marlissa Gallo said that her office is constantly monitoring areas frequented by street dwellers, including panhandlers. She encouraged Davaoeños to refrain from giving them alms.
“It is not really allowed. Every day we have operations against the street-dwellers, including those who are caroling and begging,” she said.
Currently, the CSWDO is coordinating with the Public Safety and Security Command Center, the Davao City Police Office, and the City Transport and Traffic Management System to further intensify the operations, especially during the Christmas season.
Further, Gallo told Davaoeños to report to the CSWDO, the police, and the barangay about the presence of carolers in their area.
“It is not considered an essential movement so it is covered by our COVID protocol. They can report to the police, CSWDO, and the barangay,” she said.
