SAMAL DOLE sets aside P8-M for labor program, say

The regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 11 released P8 million to to 2,052 beneficiaries under Tulong Pangkabuhayan Sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program in four barangays of the Island Garden City of Samal.

The agency reported that on June 3, those who received the fund were from Babak and Peñaplata through its satellite office in the nearby city in cooperation with the Philippine Employment Service Office (PESO).

Other beneficiaries were from Kaputian and Talicud Island who received the assistance the following day.

Samal City Laborer Officer Erlinda Mamitag said the program is among the assistance packages that the agency is offering to the unemployed, displaced and underemployed workers. The agency is coordinating with the city government in identifying the beneficiaries while PESO is in-charge of the documentary requirements of the identified beneficiaries.

Under the program, identified beneficiaries are made to work in jobs that the agency is offering them between 10 and 30 days. These jobs include clean-up operations along the streets, assisting the construction projects of the city government and other services that they can render. The beneficiaries are given P396 each for a day of service.

In his opening speech during the launching of the activity, DOLE XI Regional Director Raymundo G. Agravante said there will be more employment opportunities through the programs that the agency is implementing and that residents of the city will benefit from these.
