ROUGH CUTS | Now is the time to calm the ‘storm’

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte urges (the citizens) calm amid political turmoil – top news report in the local press.

Who is causing the turmoil in the first place? And what is the purpose of undertaking moves that gave birth to the political turmoil?

We hope the mayor will show one concrete action that will convince the citizenry that he means what he says. After all, there are many ways with which the issues complained against the present dispensation can be settled in a much peaceful and sane manner.

Resorting to scathing denunciations bordering to personal, or seriously adversarial stance are usually the cause of divisions among the citizenry. That is, without doubt, the reason why the Philippines can never attain the desired level of development that is wished for by the Filipinos since time immemorial.

Well, we are proven correct in our assumption as we have written on this space yesterday in connection with the continuing effort of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy from dodging the law.
In our article yesterday we said that with the amount of the financial reward for anyone who can lead to the capture of the fugitive religious leader it is not far-fetch that even his own friends can become traitors and give him away.

True enough. In a press briefing conducted by the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG) and the spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP) it was disclosed that the two agencies are now having an avalanche of information regarding the pastor’s hiding place.

Of course, both the DILG secretary and the PNP spokesperson said the information given are still being vetted to ensure that these are legitimate and not just to smokescreen the real hiding place. And since this involves a huge sum of money the likelihood is that the government wants to give the reward to the informant who is the first to give the most accurate location that will lead to the capture of the pastor.
Besides, the Pastor is not bereft of friends with the shrewdest and brightest brains who can develop a scheme with which they could counter the possible effect of a 10-million booty. So, as we wrote yesterday, the tracking of Pastor Quiboloy by the law enforcers still has a long way to go.

Meanwhile, many from among the members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ Church (KOJC) and even from the other religious denominations, are asking: “What is going to happen to the “rock” where the Reverend Pastor founded his religious group on? Is it going to crumble? Or is the Pastor’s preference for a fugitive life becoming similar to the forces that slowly but deliberately destroyed the mountain-tall concrete Marcos, Sr.’s bust once proudly standing by the side of the highway leading to the City of Pines?

Frankly we could personally not help but compare the situation of the Pastor’s believers to the biblical story about Jesus Christ riding on a boat with his apostles going to a place to conduct His ministry. While in the middle of the lake a strong typhoon occurred and destabilized the boat causing the apostles to worry the vessel will sink. And they could not help but wake Jesus up. The Master was soundly asleep in one area of the boat. We assume through that it was Jesus Himself who caused the storm to happen to test how much faith his apostles have in Him.

In the case of Jesus and the Apostles’ journey however, Christ was able to calm the storm down using his power. Similarly in the Quiboloy case he too seems to be the one creating the “storm” that is rocking his “boat” by doing things that are allegedly against established laws of the land.

Whether or not the Reverend Pastor can calm down the “storm” of his own creation, we have no idea. But if as what he had previously claimed during one of his sermons that he was able to stop the earthquakes that hit the city some months back; or that he can call back an epidemic even worse than CoViD 19 to punish those who he thinks done him wrong, then Pastor Quiboloy could also possibly stop the “storm” buffeting him and subsequently his Church and other institutions identified with him.
Now is the most opportune time to show his power from the Father.

So a special body is constituted by the local government of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur to look into the reported issuances of fake birth certificates to some Chinese nationals since years back?

But how could the probe body guarantee that its investigation is impartial when its composition is made of the municipality’s top officials? What guaranty can the body give when maybe some of its members may have participated, knowingly or not, in the illegal activity? Say, there might be some probe body’s members who have affixed their signatures on the documents that led to the issuance of the fake birth certificates because it is a matter of procedure?

And whose probe result will prevail if the LGU-constituted group’s findings run counter to what the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) finds out?
