ROUGH CUTS | Mixed reactions to the VP’s statement

Well, as we have written on this space late last week that the statement of Vice President Sara Duterte that she was “appointing herself the ‘designated’ survivor” as an aside reason for her not attending the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., the words would likely elicit varied reactions from the people.

And it did. As far as the pro-VP Filipinos are concerned there was nothing wrong with her statement. Thus, their reactions were mostly positive and supportive of the Vice President. In fact a rabid supporter through his social media post, claims that the statement of VP Sara about her appointing herself the “designated survivor” is sending signals that there is a possibility of change in the national leadership. That supporter even adds that the VP’s statement is sending shivers to the big businesses owners who he alleged to have benefited largely from the current administration because a Maecos Jr.’s ouster would wipe out their businesses.

On the other hand, the pro-administration people, among them politicians like some congressmen, have a much more negative interpretation of the VP’s words. In fact even if they feel it was said in a somewhat jestingly manner, still they believe that it was some kind of a bad joke that should never had been said at all by the VP who is the first in the succession line should the President die or become incapacitated.
For the more impartial and discerning citizens, what the VP said was something that is open for intrigues to emanate. It could even lead to serious implications. That is, God forbids, if something catastrophic happens during the President’s SONA with all the top leaders of government including those in the line of succession to the Presidency become victims except the Vice President, we have no doubt that the statement would most likely evolve into a police concern.

Of course knowing that the VP is a lawyer, she surely knows more than enough how far the implications of her statement could go. And since it appears that she knows her way in, she sure knows exactly her way out.

In the meanwhile, she has definitely attained her primary purpose of making such statement. Her name and position are in every Filipino’s consciousness and will remain there for a long time perhaps up to the next Presidential elections in 2028.

Indeed, by making that now famous phrase that apparently sends some officials aligned with the present national administration scrambling for words to temper its impact, the VP is proving herself that she is truly the daughter of her father.

The only question is whether or not it will endear her to more Filipinos, or will it alienate her further to those who have doubts in her intention. We are certain the other camp will not take it sitting down The demolition work in fact is now heating up.

*******************************

Fugitive Kingdom of Jesus Christ Church Apollo Quiboloy is far from being out though he is now down in the judicial ring and in the bar of public opinion.

We say he is far from out because even if he is in hiding after several warrants for his arrest were issued, he still remains far from the arms of the law.

In fact he earlier even set some conditions to the government for him to surrender. Lately, without showing himself in public he sued certain top officials of the government including President Marcos and the Justice Secretary for forcing him into a life of a criminal for crimes he refused to admit to have committed.

How far will his suit progress we have no idea. But we are certain that whatever will be the ruling of the court on the Pastor-in-hiding’s suit will be most awaited as it could be a precedent in as far as the Philippine Justice system is concerned.

There is however, one thing we are certain about. That is, the eventual arrest of the religious leader, even if it will take a long time. As the common adage says, the only thing permanent in the world is change. Hence, todays friends of the pastor could be his enemies in the future – near or far. And the major catalyst of that change in the Pastor’s relationship with his friends and enemies is money; the Ten Million (P10,000,000.00) on top of his head.

For now it is a given that Quiboloy is in his safest sanctuary – in the protective mass of his loyal supporters and influential friends. But again money, an eye-popping amount, is now being dangled. And it could be much more than the snake that tempted Eve in Paradise.

By the way, a reader told us through a social media chat that the KJC Pastor has a politician that he has one thing in common with. We asked the reader who the politician is but he did not give us the identity. Who is this politician and what is their commonality? You might want to help us.
