ROUGH CUTS | Buying votes through the ‘ayuda’

HOW TRUE is this report?

Two senior citizens who were listed as recipients of cash “ayuda” the release of which was facilitated by a national government administration candidate, were told by the said bet’s barangay coordinator that their names were already delisted from the roster earlier submitted.

The reason for the delisting, according to what the coordinator told the elderly supposed beneficiaries, is that they failed to collect the “ayuda” during the previous “payout” done in a barangay about fifty kilometers from the two senior recipients’ village residence.

For their part, the delisted recipients told the coordinator of the concerned candidate that their failure to collect their Ayuda is because of the distance and the expected long wait before they could be attended to. Besides, one of the two underwent a mastectomy only three months back. The other, we learned is also suffering from erratic blood pressure making it risky for him to be exposed for long in a hot atmosphere with thick crowd of people.

More so because the release or assistance’ payout schedule and the location were made known to the two elderly beneficiaries only a day before the distribution. So they did not have enough time to physically condition themselves.

Then they were told that another payout of the “ayuda” from the government was slated. And the schedule was a few days shortly before the election. So the two elderly beneficiaries, like all the others, said they were hopefully waiting for the day of the release which is three days.

But what a disgusting news the two senior beneficiaries learned. They confided that they were told by the barangay coordinator that after their failure to collect their “ayuda” during the previous schedule, their names in the list of beneficiaries of the “ayuda” slated for disbursement shortly before the midterm polls were already deleted.

That was when he two elderlies cried foul. Woe unto them.

But wait, why are they taken out from the list? Is their failure to get their cash assistance for a highly justifiable reason enough to deny them the financial “ayuda” the money of which surely came from the taxes paid by the people, including the taxes paid to the government by the two deprived recipients?

Now we know that the supposed “ayuda” is actually a vote-buying scheme implemented by this “lucky” candidate of the national administration through his subalterns.

We are certain that the mentioned delisting was not only done on the two elderly beneficiaries but to several others who happen to experience similar predicament as the two seniors mentioned herein.

And what about the money of the people that was withdrawn from the national coffers to foot the grant of the “ayuda?” Will the agency tasked to distribute the “ayuda” keep it for “good?” Or, if not, will it be returned to the national treasury, or simply deposited in some private persons’ personal bank accounts?

Our take is that there is a huge certainty that the financial “ayuda” goes to the pockets of some scheming political leaders and perhaps to the candidate facilitating the release of the cash assistance.

We are certain as well, that with the delisting of the mentioned seniors beneficiaries’ names, the candidate concerned is minus two potential votes during judgment day.

Indeed talks circulating around that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has mandated that a voter who cannot present his or her National ID will not be allowed to vote, is certainly a disinformation concocted by some highly partisan individuals out to discredit the poll body and lead the people to think that the administration has something to do with it.

What could be the objective of those who floated the talks other than creating doubts on the voters’ mind? Why, is the National ID more important in determining whether a person entering the precinct is a legitimate voter than a Voter’s ID?

How vain can these people be in disseminating such talks just so they can create confusion and insinuates doubt on the credibility of the coming election?

Well, it seems it is only in the Philippines that this kind of scheme is so rampant and at times taken by not just a few as something that is true.
