THE PUBLIC Safety and Security Office (PSSO) assured the full-blast surveillance for the Kadayawan festivities this weekend, Aug. 19-20, to guarantee the safety of spectators and tourists.
During the iSpeak conference on Thursday, PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay said they monitored no threats to the Kadayawan.
“Well sa dagan karon no, wala man gyud tay threat, tanaw nako safe gyud ta (So far there have been no threats, I am confident that we are safe),” Sumagaysay said.
Sumagaysay said the office pays particular attention to convergence points, such as San Pedro Square where the culminating activities will be held.
“Isa na sa buhosan nako og security. Isa na sa napag-usapan namo nga dapat medyo daghan-daghan mi dinha along the road, of course ang ilaw. (That is one area that we will be tightening the security. We have talked that there must be a large number of security personnel along that road and, of course, we will install lighting,” Sumagaysay said.
Sumagaysay said they installed additional ten closed-circuit television cameras on top of the nearly 200 CCTVs. However, they are considering weather disturbances that may affect the operation.
He said that aside from police visibility, they will also enforce random frisking.
Sumagaysay said the security plans were incorporated with the City Tourism Office, which also deployed tourist police officers to assist residens and visitors.
“Na-brief pud nato ang mga police nga maging articulate pud sila every time may encounter na foreigners and may mga pangutana dapat medyo knowledgeable pud sila no (We have briefed the police to be articulate every time they encounter foreigners, and they would be knowledgeable to answer their questions,” Sumagaysay said.
Aside from fixed medical stations, there will be medical responders deployed in mobile stations along the road for the parade and the stage area during the performances.
He reminded the public despite no direct threats to remain vigilant and alert and engage to security personnel for any concerns.
