THE NAVAL Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) rescued a group of stranded fishermen off the coast of Governor Generoso on April 1, 2025, after their fishing boat experienced engine failure.
While conducting a routine patrol in Davao Gulf, BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG 906), under the operational control of Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao’s NTF71, located the drifting fishing boat, F/B Lydia 001, approximately 2.7 nautical miles off Kaganuhan Point, Governor Generoso.
The boat’s crew signaled for help, indicating they had been adrift for three days with engine trouble and were running out of food and water.
BRP Herminigildo Yurong immediately provided the crew with essential supplies, including food, water, and rice.
The boat captain explained that they had encountered engine problems while traveling from General Santos City to Mati and were unable to obtain assistance from passing vessels.
Despite attempts to repair the engine, the crew was unsuccessful due to suspected transmission issues.
BRP Herminigildo Yurong coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Sub-Station Tibanban for additional assistance, but no suitable watercraft was available.
Consequently, BRP Herminigildo Yurong began towing F/B Lydia 001 and later transferred the tow to F/B Jace Aiden, who assisted in bringing the stranded vessel ashore.
The rescue operation concluded at approximately 11 a.m. after BRP Herminigildo Yurong notified PCG Sub-Station Tibanban about F/B Jace Aiden towing F/B Lydia 001 toward Jamboree, Governor Generoso.
