THE MINDANAO Development Authority (MinDA) concluded its two-day 3rd Mindanao Development Forum on July 25 at the Acacia Hotel Davao.

The event gathered national and international partners across various sectors to discuss and collaborate on strategies for achieving sustainable socio-economic development in Mindanao.

In his opening remarks, MinDa Secretary Leo Tereso Magno highlighted the significant developments achieved by various groups and sectors, emphasizing collective efforts in addressing issues in Mindanao.

“We are encouraged by the focus on agricultural development, support for local industries, strategic infrastructure expansion, economic recovery, and improvements in socioeconomic services. Mindanao is benefiting greatly from the conducive macroeconomic environment we are currently enjoying,” he added.

He distinguished that Mindanao has reached its turning point, presenting an opportunity to foster development initiatives. He also highlighted the need for individual cooperation to reduce poverty and improve well-being.

“We believe that for poverty reduction efforts to be sustained over time, people must be at the heart of our development process…human capital and skills development at the center of our economic and development goals,” he said.

Moreover, Magno expressed confidence in Mindanao’s ability to play a comprehensive role in achieving food security, peace, trade, commerce, investment, and prosperity.

“With the national government’s support in implementing high-impact projects, we can transform Mindanao into a hub of prosperity and innovation, contributing to the overall growth of the nation,” he stated.

The event was also supported by the European Union Delegation, USAID Philippines, Australian Aid, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, GIZ Philippines, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the University of the Philippines Public Administration Research and Extension Services Foundation, Inc.

He extended his request to different stakeholders and Mindanaoans to collaborate for a more prosperous, peaceful, and thriving Mindanao.

“With the dedication of local government units, industry associations, private sector groups, and international partners, we are confident in Mindanao’s continued progress,” Magno concluded.

The Mindanao Development Forum 2024 will run until July 25.
