Marina holds Maritime job fair

THE MARITIME Industry Authority (Marina) partnered with the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) XI to hold the first-ever maritime job fair in NCCC Mall Buhangin, Davao City on Sept. 15 in line with the Maritime Week Celebration.

Remo Amatong, Marino Party-list head of operations for Mindanao, noted the high demand for maritime graduates and job seekers.

The seafarers, after being in the school for too long, and their industry as very technical, we’d want them to end up in an industry where they invested their money’s worth. In their college degrees, in their technical skills,” Amatong said.

The one-day job fair consisted of 31 companies, with 2,500 local and 1,000 overseas job vacancies.

Lilibeth Pantinople, PESO XI head, said the event was not exclusive for maritime graduates since employers also listed vacancies that were not maritime-related.

Daghan companies ang nanginahanglan og seafarers, most of them are in crew ship, and ang uban is for local, aron maka-experience sila before going abroad,” Pantinople said.

Lisa Orongan, Marina XI regional director, also hoped to hold exclusive job fairs for the maritime industry in the future. “Among nationalities, Filipinos ang naa’y pinakadaghang maritime workers,” she added.
