Less than 100 children to be given services by ASP

THE AUTISM Society Philippines will give free services and benefits to 89-100 of the estimated 600 kids who participated in the Angels Walk for Autism.

During the Angels Walk for Autism at SM Ecoland, Uswaldo Parreñas, president of ASP Davao, said the services are only for the official registrants and members of the ASP with benefits such as free seminars and family support groups.

“Every family support group, we have online seminars at the same time may mga actual seminars kami na binibigay sa mga parents at sa mga children. At the same time, they are also given discounts, especially sa mga professionals ng mga seminars on autism,” he said.

Parreñas also hoped they could provide the children with free speech and occupational therapies.

“In the meantime, we give out services via sharing of experiences, sharing of seminars para ma empower yung mga parents nila if they can get parang techniques and styles sa mga speech therapy,” he said.

The Angels Walk for Autism launched at the SM Ecoland Annex Event Center last April 21. The event aimed to empower kids, raise awareness about the condition, and for the children to be socially accepted in celebration of World Autism Month.

Parreñas also added the number of participants who attended the event exceeded their expectations with a total of 1,227 participants.

“In fact, roughly estimate nila baka maabot tayo ng 2,000 today. All participants for that matter including all mga advocates, mga ibang stakeholders natin,” he said.

The event was announced by Uswaldo Parreñas during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM Ecoland last April 15 where they anticipated 1,000 participants to join the event.
