THE ORGANIZER of “From Ridge to Reef Environmental Run” expects around 500 participants for the event on June 25 this year.

Presently, organizer RIDGE to Reef Inc. said they already registered more than 150 participants for the event, part of the Environmental Month celebration.

The race will Follow the Coastal Road – Sirawan Route.

Mary Rose Ofianga, lead organizer and environmental consultant for Ridge to Reef, Inc., said they  “are not just advocating for tree-growing, but also for beating plastic pollutions.

“So, the month of June is raising awareness about beating plastic pollution, and that is why we make sure that there will be no use of PET [polyethylene terephthalate] bottles and single-use-plastics during the event, and we will avoid plastic litter during the event,” Ofianga said.

The participants are advised to bring their own water bottles (BYOB).

Proceeds of the event will support the tree-growing advocacy in Marilog District, Davao City, in partnership with the Matigsalug tribe. They hoped to plant an additional 1,500 trees by the end of the year.
