Fourth IRONMAN 70.3 Davao Weekend Draws Over 3,000 to new course southside of the city

The 2024 edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 Davao powered by Aboitiz will be on Sunday, 11 August,
and will feature events for the whole family – Gwapa Dabawenya Run, IRONKIDS Run and Duathlon,
RLC Family Day and the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon

– Slots for the World Championship races in Nice for 2024 and Marabella for 2025 will be awarded to
age group athletes

DAVAO CITY – The IRONMAN Group is gearing up for the 2024 IRONMAN 70.3 Davao powered by Aboitiz which will feature a brand-new course in the new Davao City Coastal Road, setting a new challenge for athletes as they swim 1.9km parallel to the Talomo Bay, cycle 90km towards the Macarthur Highway and back to the coastal road for the 21.1km-run to the finish line.

The City of Davao is known for its proximity and preservation of nature sites, flora and fauna. The city is also hailed for its significant role in the conservation of the Philippine Eagle and other protected wildlife. Recognized as the safety and cleanest city in the country, Davao City has a diverse mix of cultures, ethnic groups in a thriving modern metropolis.

Hon. Sebastian Z. Duterte, mayor of Davao City, welcomes all the athletes; “To hold this event in Davao City for the fourth time truly brings prestige to us Dabawenyos. We are thrilled to welcome back the organizers, honored guests and most especially the athletes from all over the country and the world.”

With the full backing of the local government of Davao City and the Municipality of Sta. Cruz, the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon will set the stage of the Tribu Maisugon, the competition for the fastest team based on its fastest athletes in different age groups. The city will award Php500,000 as the cash price for the top team.

This Sunday’s race is supported by presenting partner Aboitiz Power.

To foster greater camaraderie and community spirit, the Team Tents Competition will once again take place in Davao, similar to the one at IRONMAN Philippines in Subic Bay. Sun Life, Snakehead Tri Team, Team Somats/ Hipster, Orangutri, SND Barracuda, TriDavOr/DavOr Multisports/Tri Attys, BCBP Tri, Eightensity Active Sports and Team Triad have volunteered set up support stations where they will offer refreshments, manpower, and enthusiastic cheering for the runners. Special prizes will recognize teams for their overall booth design, athlete support, cleanliness, creativity, and compliance to guidelines.

IRONMAN 70.3 Davao powered by Aboitiz will also have invitational slots for the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, France, available as well as the 45 agegroup slots to the 2025 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Marbella, Spain.

2GO Gwapa Dabawenya

Run Opening the festivities in the Davao race weekend is the Gwapa Dabawenya Run – with 2,200 slots filled within a few hours of opening. 2GO will support the fun run as its title sponsor with the aim to inspire and empower runners from all backgrounds. Recognizing the benefits of an active lifestyle, 2GO remains dedicated to promoting sports initiatives. The 5km fun run will take place on Friday of the event week.

RLC IRONKIDS Run-Bike-Run and IRONKIDS Run

The IRONKIDS will take place in Saturday, August 10 with 200 young champs in the RunBike-Run and 100 in the IRONKIDS Run events. RLC Residences supports the IRONKIDS in Davao as title sponsor in their commitment to nurture young athletes and fostering community well-being.
